Meet our CEO:
As an immigrant from Sierra Leone, Sarian Bouma arrived in Washington , DC with a scholarship and a dream of a better life. A troubled marriage left her divorced, pregnant and hungry. She found comfort in a women’s shelter and went on welfare for a short time to support her child. Ms. Bouma secured a job at a bank where she met her future husband, who encouraged her to start her own commercial cleaning business.
Remembering her own struggles, she is dedicated to employing the homeless or those on welfare. Her dedication to the business community and those around her earned her the US Small Business Administration’s Welfare-To-Work Entrepreneur of the Year Award and lead to her appointment by the Governor of Maryland to serve on the state’s Economic Development Commission. She was also nominated by the National Foundation of Black Women Business Owners and the US Small Business Administration.
Today, her firm, CHBM, founded in 1986, boasts an impressive list of client who have allowed her to continue providing quality building maintenance services throughout the Maryland and National Capital region. For more on Ms. Bouma, please visit her personal website.
